If a wireless connection is available and the internet connection itself is only now and then available, your anti-virus program or firewall is blocking the connection.
More and more computer do have pre-installed software. Symantec for example, is commonly used as pre-installed software. However, this program is often the cause of a blocked internet connection.
In order to gain a working internet connection, you need to temprarily remove these programs. However, programs such as Norton, McAfee and other programs can cause some problems while removing them.
The removal of Norton 2003~2009 using the 'Uninstall' option in the Windows Control Panel will not be sufficient. This program is to deeply embedded into the Windows system itself to be removed using the Windows 'Uninstall' program. Even if this program has been removed using the Windows Uninstall option, some files will still be active in the Windows system itself and will keep blocking the internet connection. This issue can also appear when using programs such as McAfee, Kaspersky, AVG, Avast and AntiVir.
You will be able to install another anti-virus program, but you will not be able to update this program if the embedded files of the old and removed anti-virus programs are still present in the Windows system. Updating this program will not even be possible using the Windows Safe mode.
In order to completely remove these programs from your computer, you need to download a 'removal tool'.
You can use the following link to be directed to a website which enables you to completely remove these programs after which they can not block the internet connection anymore. The link: Click

Because everyone can receive a networks wireless signal, we recommend you to secure your wireless network. There are several security methods available. To use one of the methods, it is very important that each wireless adapter must support this wireless security form. We recommend you to use the strongest level of wireless security: WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access).
WPA/WPA2 is supported from Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and up. This type of security cannot be used on older Windows versions, unless the used wireless card has explicit WPA/WPA2 support for these Windows systems. If you do not have Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, or the correct software, then you can use WEP security.

You have to manually fill in the IP addressess and DNS addressess in the configuration screen of your Xbox/PS3.
You do not have to open any ports.
For providers who use mac address control (e.g. Ziggo. UPC) you have to fill in the mac address of your working pc into the configuration screen of the Xbox/PS3.
Without this mac address the connection can not be accomplished.
For the Nintendo Wii there is a manual online which explaines step by step what to do:Manual

Complete systems are more often supplied with pre-installed software. Symantec Norton is an antivirus package that can get in the way of setting up an internet connection. To get the connection to work you will need to remove the software temporarily. Norton, McAfee e.g. can give you problems with deïnstalling.
The removal of Norton 2003 till 2009 through the Uninstall in Software/All Programs is NOT enough. The program is embedded deep into the system, which causes to not to be able to open any webpages. This also happens with other manufacturers like McAfee, Kaspersky, AVG, Avast and AntiVir.
You can install a new antivirus program but it cannot be updated in normal mode or secure mode.
To remove the program completely from your system you will need to download a separate removal tool.
By clicking on the link you will enter a website where you can fully remove the antivirus programs and cannot give you any problems while setting up a connection.

This can have multiple causes. To make sure which it is you can start with the following:- Open the DMZ in the router. The DMZ is a buffer between your home network and the internet. When this is set to enable then all ports will be opened and the connection should work.
- If the connection does not work with the DMZ enabled then the problem is probably caused by a setting in your anti-virus software or the firewall. Switch these off. Also check the IP-address which you have set in the router. If this is not correct then the DMZ will refer to the wrongly set IP-address.
- If the connection works with the DMZ enabled it means that the ports that are set right now in your Virtual Server are not correct. Check the settings in the router and verify these with the manufacturer of the game/program.
- You can scan ports on a website like this: PortScan to check if they are actually opened. If this is the case then again, check your firewall or anti-virus settings.
- Check if the device whereto the ports need to be opened are set to a static IP-address. If this is not the case then the DHCP server of the router will possibly give a different IP-address which will result in a not functioning Virtual Server.
Go to the network configuration of the device whereto the ports need to be opened en input the correct data. Depending on the router and the device you must set the IP-address, subnetmask and default gateway.

This problem can exist for these reasons:
- Make sure that your computer is within the reach of the router. The distance between the computer and the router can be too large which causes a signal that is too weak.
- Check if the wireless receiver/network card in your computer is installed properly and it is enabled. If it is disabled, there will be a red cross through the system properties of the device. This can be checked at Start > Control Panel > System. Choose the tab Hardware and click on the button Device Manager.
On the latest laptops is a switch to enable the wireless radio. Consult the manual of the laptop for this or contact the manufacturer.
- Set the router to a different channel through the webinterface of the router. Please consult the manual of the router for these settings. Possibly the current channel is being used by another device (like a DECT-phone) which causes a malfunction in the connection.
- It is possible that youve made a type error while entering the network-key so that the computer cannot connect to the network. Check the network-key and enter it again. Otherwise disable the security like WEP, WPA or MAC Address Control temporarily to connect the connection.
Tip: This network-key, if chosen WPA, is capital-sensitive. If you entered for example vanVelzen1983B in your router as the network-key, then you have to copy this exactly to the computer.
- Update your computer with the latest Windows updates like Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista. Go to www.windowsupdate.com to update the computer.
- The connection can be set up properly and your computer tells you that there is a connection with the wireless network. If you still do not have internet then it is possible that the connection is blocked by a Firewall or Antivirus program. Disable the Firewall and check the setting of the Antivirus program.
Programs like Norton and McAfee often still work on the background even if you already disabled them. To make sure that your Firewall of Antivirus is not blocking the connection, the best option is to remove the programs temporarily.

Log on to the router like described in the manual.
When logged on you click on Wireless under the menu Basic Setting.
In this window you can change the wireless channel, by changing the number behind Channel.
The best way to select an optimal wireless channel is to run them by. Is the standard wireless channel set to 6, then try 8. If this doesnt improve the situation, then go to 4 and so on to get the best signal.

You need to set both devices to the same wireless channel and set identical WEP security (WPA does not comply with WDS) in both devices. To make the WDS settings a bit easier we will give you an example without WEP security. If you are using WEP security then make sure you are using the same key on both devices.
In this example the EM4216/EM4217 is connected to the internet and therefore the primary router. - Go to Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
- Press Enter and log on with the username Admin and the password Admin.
- Open Status in the top menu.
- Click in the left menu on Product Information.
- Write down the AP MAC, this is used later in the EM4050.
- Click in the top menu on Wireless.
- Click in the left menu on Setup.
- Write down which Channel is set.
- Click in the left menu on Security and check if the security is enabled. Turn it off when it is.
- Store the settings by pressing Apply.
- Click in the left menu on WDS.
- Set the WDS Mode to Crude.
- Check the box Uplink and fill in the MAC address of the EM4050. This MAC address is stated on the bottom of the device.
- Click on Apply at the right bottom of the screen.
- Click on Save and Reboot in the left menu.
- Now click on Save and reboot in the centre of the screen.
To set the EM4050 you need to disconnect the EM4216/EM4217.- Connect the EM4050 to your computer with a network cable.
- Log on to the settings page of the router. Go to Internet Explorer and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Press Enter.
- Click in the left menu on Wireless Setup. Choose at Channel No the channel which you have wrote down of the EM4216/EM4217.
- Check if Wireless Security is turned to Off.
- Store the settings by pressing Save.
- Now go to Advanced in the left menu and then to Wireless bridging.
- Check both boxes Enable WDS and Enable Specific Access Points Only.
- At AP1 fill in the MAC address of the EM4216/EM4217. This is the MAC address you wrote down earlier.
- Store the settings with Save.
- Click in the left menu on LAN Configuration.
- Change the IP Address in 192.168.1.200 and uncheck the box Enable DHCP Server.
- Store these settings by pressing Save.
You can close the page now. Disconnect the EM4050 from your computer and put this on a place halfway between the EM4216/EM4217 and the computers that need to sue the wireless network. The wireless computers can now make a connection with the EM4050 and have internet.

To make it easier to configure WDS we will not use any WEP encryption in this example. You can set the encryption afterwards as explained in the manual of both devices. Make sure both devices use the same encryption key.br>

It is possible that there is a problem with transferring DNS addresses to human languages. This means that when you type in www.google.com the computer does not understand this but when you type in googles DNS address (for example 64.323.324.333) there is a connection.
To resolve this problem you will need to fill in the DNS addresses of your provider on your network card. This goes as follows:
In Windows XP:
- First you will need to find the DNS addresses of your provider. On the following you will find the most providers : DNS Providers
- Once noted, go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
- Here you will find the LAN-connection (if your computer is connected with a cable to your router) or your wireless connection which you work with.
- Click on it with the right mousebutton and select Properties.
- Double click on Internet protocol (TCP/IP) in the midst of your window.
- In this new window you will find the option use the following DNS server addresses at the bottom, select it.
- Now fill in the DNS data of your provider and click on OK.
- The connection should work now.
In Windows Vista:
- First you will need to find the DNS addresses of your provider. On the following you will find the most providers : DNS Providers
- Once noted, go to Start > Control Panel > Network Centrum
- On the leftside click on Control network connections.
- Here you will find the LAN-connection (if your computer is connected with a cable to your router) or your wireless connection which you work with.
- Click on it with the right mousebutton and select Properties.
- Double click on Internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IP) in the midst of your window.
- In this new window you will find the option use the following DNS server addresses at the bottom, select it.
- Now fill in the DNS data of your provider and click on OK.
- The connection should work now.
In MAC OS 10x
- First you will need to find the DNS addresses of your provider. On the following you will find the most providers : DNS Providers
- At the bottom, click on System Preferences and go to Network.
- At DNS-servers fill in the data (where the 3 dns addresses need to be separated with a comma).
- Click on Apply.
- The connection should work now.

This notice appears in screen when the PC has not received a correct IP address of the router. Check if all cables are connected properly, even reset the wLINK and try again if necessary. Preferably set the router with a cabled connection, not wireless.
Then there is a wireless connection, you can set the wireless connection like described in the manual.
