The use of a power supply is optional and mostly unnecessary. The most USB equipment do not need a power supply. If wanted, a 5V DC power supply with minimal 500mA is enough.
Notice: Only use a compact light-weight 5V DC power supply.
Do not use an old-fashioned 5V power supply with a large transformator because this will supply 8V and it will destroy the USB hub.
