It is not possible to setup the media player in such a way the hard disk or media player itself will be turned off when downloading/unpacking has finished.
There is always an active swap partition (virtual memory for the media player) available on the hard disk of the media player, which makes it impossible to automatically turn off the hard disk or media player after downloading/unpacking.

When using an external USB hard disk on a Mac computer, the Mac computer will most probably have asked to format the hard disk.
If a Mac computer has formatted a hard disk, the file system on the hard disk will become the HFS or the HFS+ file system. This file system is ideal to be used on a Mac system, but this file system is not supported by the media player. The media player supports the following file systems: NTFS, FAT32 en EXT2 en EXT3.
FAT32 is supported by your Mac computer. However, FAT32 is not suitable since media files are often larger then 4GB which is the maximum file size of FAT32.
EXT2 and EXT3 are Linux file systems. Your Mac computer does not have support for these file systems. No programs are availabe to add stable EXT2 and EXT3 support.
NTFS is the only remaining option: Although a Mac computer does not have native NTFS support, it is possible to add NTFS support on your Mac computer. For Example: Programs which are able to add NTFS support are MacFuse, NTFS-3G and Tuxera*. These programs can be downloaded using the internet.
Once the correct programs have been installed, you can format the external USB hard disk using the NTFS file system (by using the menu of the media player or by using your Mac computer). Afterwards, you can copy your media files to the external hard disk which can be played by the media player.
*MacFuse, NTFS-3G and Tuxera is software which is developed by third parties. Eminent does not support this software.
Hint: If you are using Mac OSx 10.7, it may be advisable to use the 64-bit versions of the software (if available). 64-bit software may function better on Mac OSx 10.7!

The media player knows many different genres. The MP3's are only shown in genres if:
The MP3's have ID3v1 tags, which is obligated! The MP3's may also have ID3v2.3 - utf16 or ID3v2.4 - utf8 tags
The MP3's are not shown if the MP3's:
Only have ID3v2.3 - utf16 tags (but no ID3v1 tag)
Only have ID3v2.4 - utf8 tags (but no ID3v1 tag)
If some of the MP3's are shown in genres and other MP3's are not shown in genres or are shown in 'Others', it means the MP3's which are not shown in genres may have ID3v2.3/ID3v2.4 tags but they have no ID3v1 tag.
Note: The media player itself knows pre-defined genres. The media player does not support self-created genres
Hint: You can use the program called MP3tag to add of remove ID3 tags. If your MP3's have no ID3v1 tag, you can add these by using the MP3tag program. The software can be downloaded using the following link: Click

Go to 'Settings'
Go to 'System'
Go to 'Text encoding'
Select 'Unicode(UTF8)' and press the 'OK' button of the remote control
Then edit the tags of the MP3 file itself. For example: Use MP3tag for this purpose. You do need to use the latest version of MP3tag. Older versions only have support for UTF-16, which is not supported by the EM7080

When the media player's internal hard disk has been formatted by the Mac computer, the file system of the hard disk will be HFS+ , which is an Apple file system. The media player uses NTFS as a file system.
Because the media player does not recognize the HFS+ file system, the contents of the hard disk will not be recognized anymore. The only manner to recognize the hard disk again, is to format the hard disk using the menu of the media player.
Before you connect the media player to the Mac computer again, you need to install additional software on the Mac computer which will add NTFS support on the Mac computer**. After the installation of this software, the media player can be connected to the Mac using the USB connection. The media player's hard disk will be recognized.
**Examples of software which will add NTFS support: MacFuse, NTFS-3G and Tuxera. This software is developed by third parties and can not be supported by Eminent.

If your media player is not able to connect wirelessly, you can try the following:
Network name (SSID) & Network key
Are you trying to connect to the correct network (SSID)? You can check this by using a computer or other device which is connected wirelessly. Check the SSID by which the device is connected
Are you using the correct network key? This can be checked by using a computer which is already connected to the wireless (modem)router. Login to the wireless (modem)router and check whether the network key on this device is the same network key as you are using to connect the media player. Refer to the manual of the (modem)router for the correct steps
Check whether the (modem)router has an active Mac-Filter table. A Mac-Filter table can be the cause that new devices are not allowed to connect to the wireless (modem)router. Refer to the manual of the (modem)router for the correct steps
Preferably do not use ‘strange’ characters in the network key (&%#@!). If you are using any of these characters, please try to set a network key on the wireless (modem)router without these characters and try to reconnect the media player. Refer to the manual of the (modem)router for the correct steps
Other causes
It is possible the signal of the wireless router is not sufficient enough for the media player. Try to locate the media player in such a way the signal will not be blocked
The wireless (modem) might be using a frequency which does not work correctly. You can change the channel of the wireless (modem)router and try to connect again. Refer to the manual of the (modem)router for the correct steps
If you are not able to connect because the name of the nework (SSID) is not shown, and this cannot be solved by changing the channel, it is possible your wireless (modem)router is using a 5Ghz range. The media player does not support the 5Ghz range. The media player supports the 2.4Ghz range. Login to the wireless (modem)router and change the range to 2.4 Ghz or to a combined 2.4Ghz+5Ghz range. Refer to the manual of the (modem)router for the correct steps

CEC stands for 'Consumer Electronics Control'. HDMI CEC is a functionality within the HDMI standard. Using this feature, it becomes more user friendly to control multiple HDMI devices. The CEC protocol itself is transported using PIN 13 of the HDMI connector.
The wiring for the CEC protocol is always present in each HDMI cable, this is compulsory. However, manufacturers of HDMI devices are not obligated to implement the CEC protocol in their HDMI devices.
The characteristics of CEC
CEC is used for functions which are usually done by a remote control
Makes use of the standarized AV Link protocol
Up-to ten HDMI devices can be controlled
CEC was already present in the first HDMI specification. It received multiple updates in HDMI version 1.2a and 1.3a (extra timer and audio features). The audio features are commonly used in a lot of new HDMI devices. This feature is also known as 'ARC' (Audio Return Channel)
What can you do with HDMI CEC?
By using the CEC protocol, you can control multiple CEC enabled devices using one remote control. The devices can also control each other without the interference of a user. Theoretically, it is possible to switch all HDMI devices on and off using one remote control.
Disadvantage of the CEC protocol
The CEC protocol has not been a completely standarized protocol. As result, most manufacturers of HDMI devices have developed their own CEC protocol (with implementations of their own company). Therefore, it is save to say that CEC is not cross-brand.
The main disadvantage of not being cross-brand, is the fact that HDMI devices from the same manafacturer do work perfectly when using CEC. However, when a CEC device from another manufacturer is used, or a device without CEC such as some media players, there is a big chance the CEC function does not work at all anymore.

When you are using Side-By-Side or Top-Bottom 3D files with embedded subtitles, the subtitles will appear scrambled. This is due to the fact the 3D television slides the images in to each other. In that case, you need to use specific software from a third party which can prevent this from happening. This program can be downloaded using the following link: Click

From OSX 10.7 (LION) and up, there is no support anymore for the original Samba protocol. Instead, Apple has developed an own non standard Samba protocol, called SMBX. This protocol is not compatible with other network devices, such as the media player, which all make use of the normal Samba protocol.
Because Apple is using a non standarized protocol, there is nothing that can be done on the side of the media player to let it work properly.
However, there a few potential solutions for this problem. Possible solutions are shown using the following link. These solotions are not officially support by Apple nor Eminent. Due to this, proper operation is not guaranteed by Eminent. The link: Click

Video files which can not be played, may have protected or licensed codecs. For example: Digital cameras are able to create video files with these types of codecs.
A media player does not have the possibility to play these protected or licensed codecs. Notifications of 'Unsupported codecs' may be the result of that.
Also, MKV files can be 'off-spec'. Sometimes, people create MKV's which do not meet the requirements of a MKV. Because of this, the media player is able to play these type of files and will also notify you it is an unsupported codec.
In order to find out if the video file has a protected and licensed codec, or the video file may be off-spec, the video files can be read with a specific program. The results of this program can be send to our support division. The Eminent support division can easily see what is wrong and what can be done to play these files without any error notifications.

Sometimes, Windows 7 has difficulties to recognize USB hardware. Usually, this is caused by out-of-date USB drivers/chipset drivers of your computer/mainbord. Please refer to the website of your computer manufacturer or mainboard manufacturer for updated drivers.
If Windows 7 keeps having difficulties recognizing USB hardware, despite having new drivers installed, you can use a USB hub which has it's own power supply. Connect this hub to your computer and connect the media player to the hub after which the media player will be recognized.
Note: The internal hard disk of the media player needs to be formatted using the menu of the media player. If not, Windows will not be able to recognize the hard disk.

Many of the available HDMI devices are using an optional protocol called 'AV Link protocol', also known as 'CEC' protocol. Using this protocol, you will be able to control multiple 'CEC' devices using one remote.
However, this protocol has never been standardized. Because of this, several manufacturers have developed their own CEC protocol.
As result, devices from the same manufacturer will work flawlessly when using this 'AV link protocol'. However, if another HDMI device from another manufacturer is connected which uses it's own CEC protocol, or, if the newly connected HDMI device does not use any cec protocol, such as the Eminent media player, it will usually mean that the 'AV link' or 'CEC' protocol of the other HDMI devices will not work any more. The newly connected device (media player) is not to blame, but the CEC protocol of the other HDMI devices is. Most of the CEC compatible devices can only use the CEC protocol if all HDMI devices are using the same protocol. It means all of the HDMI devices need to be from the same manufacturer.
Unfortunately, this can not be solved in the media player, since this device does not have an optional CEC protocol. The only thing possible is to disable the 'CEC' or 'AV Link protocol' in the other HDMI devices. The media player itself does support all common HDMI protocols.

These errors can occur if the news server settings are not correctly filled in, for example: When using an invalid port number, or the NZB module needs to be stopped and then started again after the settings have been filled in.
If you are using a secured news server, a so called SSL connection, then make sure you have filled in the correct port number in the NZB module:
Go to 'config'
Go to 'news-servers'
Fill in the correct port number at 'server1.port'. When using a SSL connection, you need to fill in port number '563'. When using a non-secured connection, you need to fill in port number '119'.
Save these settings
Sometimes it neccessary to restart the NZB module. Use the following steps to do so:
Click 'back to main page'
Click 'shutdown' at 'control panel'
Refresh the page
Click 'start' at 'control panel'
Refresh the page
The NZB should now start correctly
If the NZB module still does not start, then you need to open the NZB ports in the firewall of your router. Ports 8080 and 8066 need to be opened. Refer to the manual of your router for more information.
Setting up the NZBget module again:
Make sure you know your media players IP-address. You find this IP-address using the media players menu.
Open the computers web browser or the Windows Explorer
Fill in the following: \EM7080 of \IP-addressEM7080
You will see several folders
The .NZBget folder is a hidden folder. Windows needs to be able to viw hidden files and folders
Click 'Extra' and then Folder options'
Click 'View'
Scroll down the list and choose 'Show hidden folders and files'
Click 'OK'
The .NZBget folder has now become visable
Double click this folder
Right-click the nzbget.conf file
Choose 'Delete' and confirm this action
Turn off the media player using the remote
Turn on the media player again and wait for a few minutes
After a few minutes, the NZBget module has been re-created and can be setup again
If these steps did not work, you can connect your media player to a Windows computer using the supplied USB cable and let Windows perform a disk scan with error correction.

Usually this means the media player is not connected to your wireless router.
Perhaps you have not setup the wireless connection yet, or the wireless network key has not been entered correctly. Use the following steps to setup the wireless connection on the EM7080:
Connect the EM4576 wireless USB adapter to a free USB port of the EM7080
The notification 'Wifi Plug-in' appears
Go to 'Settings'
Go to 'Network'
Select 'Wireless Setup' and press the 'OK' button on the remote control
Select 'Connection1' and press the 'OK' button
Select 'Infrastructure' and press the 'OK' button
Select your own wireless network and press the 'OK' button
If a WEP or WPA is asked, you have to fill in you wireless security key. Then select the 'OK' button on your screen and then press the 'OK' button on the remote control
If the settings have been filled in, the EM7080 will test the wireless connection. A summary with IP settings appears when the connection with your wireless router has been established
Is is also possible the 'DHCP not ready' notification appears if the DHCP server on your wireless router has not been enabled. This DHCP served needs to be enabled to grant your EM7080 access to the wireless network. Even if you have filled in the correct settings such as your security key, but the DHCP server is not enabled, this notification will appear.
If you are still not able to connect wirelessly, then check whether your (modem)router is equipped with a Mac Address filter. In some cases, this function is enabled by default which can be the cause of not being able to connect. If your (modem)router indeed has an active Mac Address filter, then disable this filter and try to connect again.
Tip: Some ISP's do provide modems which can only provide a maximum of two DHCP IP-addresses. For example: Some modems from the Belgium ISP Telenet and the Dutch ISP Tele2 do provide these types of modems. If you are not able to to connect the EM7080 beacause of the fact there are already two computer active within you network, the only option is to connect a wireless router to your modem. De wireless connection will be established
When using the wireless connection while the wired connection is not conencted, the notification 'DHCP not Ready' will appear at 'Wired LAN Setup

The type of security can be the cause the webservices are not working. When using WPA security, make sure the AES encryption has been used. AES is the fastest WPA security possible.
If you are using a wireless router which supports 'B, G and N' networks, there is a good chance the settings in your router are set to 'Automatically'. In order to let the webservices function properly, one of the settings need to be used. Are you using 54G wireless adapters on your computer, then set the wireless band to 'G'. The webservices will now function.
Are you using a wireless network with the 'N' standard (150 or 300Mbps), then set the wireless band to 'N' only. The problem should now be solved.

It is possible it is a temporarily problem. It is also possible the web services are down for maintenance. Try the web services the next day to see if it is working again.
These web services are not offered by Eminent itself, but by third parties. It is possible the third parties which are offering these web services, have made some changes to the web services itself.
The moment these third parties have made some changes, it is possible the web services do not work anymore on your media player. Unfortunately, Eminent does not have any influence on this.
There is a possibility the web services will work again with the release of a new firmware for the media player. If a new firmware will be developed, which enables the web services again, can not be guaranteed. Eminent is solely dependant on the third parties which are offering these web services. Check our website to see if a new firmware has been released.

There is a big chance the built-in hard disk has one or more problems. Some clusters can be damaged, which results in data not being accessible.
Formatting the hard disk can solve these types of problems.
If this does not work, the hard disk can be defective. If a sticker is present on the hard disk, saying the hard disk has been built-in by Eminent, you can contact the Eminent helpdesk for support.
If you have built-in the hard disk yourselve, you can contact the hard disk manufacturer. Most hard disk manufacturers have a form on their website for defective hard disks.

This problem is caused by the fact that the MKV file no longer has the so-called cuepoints. Therefore the MKV file is smaller but you can not flush back-or forward anymore. This is created by the maker of the file. It is not a failure of the mediaplayer. No platform will have the possibility to flush the file this way.
Windows users are able to add these cuepoints to the MKV file. You need to download a specific packet using the following link The steps will follow themselves. Please be aware to add the cues. See image #2 in the middle, hier.
Another handmate solution is to remux the files in a DOS window or Linux Shell via Windows MKVtoolnix. You will find Windows MKVtoolnix version here

Not being able to use the webservices can have multiple causes:
The media player has an older firmware. Make sure your media player has the latest firmware available installed. Visit our website to download the latest firmware. Installation instructions can be found in the downloaded file.
Modem issues: There are some modems available, such as some specific copperjet modems with older firmware which do not have the RTSP protocol. Webservices such as 'Uitzending gemist' need to have support for this protocol. Download and install the latest firmware for your modem from this location (a login is required)
Sometimes it is neccessary to open ports in your router manually (older routers) for 'Uitzending gemist'. The ports needed are: 554 TCP/UDP and 8554 TCP/UDP. Refer to the manual of your modem/router how to open ports
Attention: Eminent is not the provider of these webservices. These services are provided by third parties. If one othese parties decides to stop broadcasting these services, it will not be available anymore in the media player. Eminent can not quarantee these services, although Eminent will use al it's recources to be able to offer these services using the media player

Windows Vista: During the following steps, we will explain hoe to share folders using Windows Vista.
Making a shared folder:
Go to Computer or open Windows Explorer.
Select the file you want to share. Make sure the chosen folder is not a public folder. You can also create a new folder by clicking the right-mouse button and choose 'New folder'. You can give a name to this folder.
Right-click the folder you want to share and click 'Properties'.
Click Share and then click share again.
Choose Everyone and click 'Add'. User 'Everyone' will be added to the screen.
Select the user rights of 'Everyone'. Choose between 'Read-only', 'contributor' or '(co) owner'. All choices can be used.
Click 'Share' after which your permission wil be asked. Click 'Continue'.
A screen with the name of the folder will be shown.
Click 'Finish' and then 'Close'.
Now you need to make sure Windows will not ask for a username and password the moment the media player connects to your computer.
Note: It does not apply if your computer is member of a domain controller.
Click Start.
Click Control Panel and go to 'Network and sharing' centre. Possibly, you need to click 'Network and Internet' first.
Make sure the option 'Secure using a username and password' is set to 'Disabled'.
You will now be able to access the shared folders of Windows Vista using the menu of your media player and selecting 'Samba ' or 'Shared folders'. When choosing your Windows Vista machine from the list, you will be able to login. If a username and password are still asked, do not fill in anything but continue.
Solutions for possible problems: It is possible the shared folder or file is still not accessible. This can have several causes: Blocking virus scanners or firewals and making use of a Domain controller.
Blocking virus scanner or firewall?: Somme virus scanners do have the possibility to block incoming network traffic. If the media player is traying to connect to your computer, it is possible your virus scanner notifies you a network device is attempting to contact the computer. Make sure access will be granted.
Not being able to login due to a Domain controller?: If your computer is part of a domain controller, you need to login using a username and password not matter what. You can use the following steps:
Go to 'Computer or open the Windows Explorer.
Right-click the shared folder and choose 'Properties'.
Click Security and click 'Add'.
Click 'Advanced' and then 'Search now'.
Select a user from the list which usually logs in to this computer and click 'OK'.

The media player does not support these type of files.
Files with the extension .mdf or .mds can be compared with ISO files, although they are not exactly the same. MDF and MDS files use a form of security/encryption which the mediaplayer cannot play. The files can only be opened on a computer (using Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools for example).
