The EM7010 has an USB 2.0 port. Your computer must have an USB 2.0 port to get the full speed. USB 1.1 is an older and slower standard. This causes problems.
The maximum theoretical speed of a USB port is 480Mbps. An eSATA port has a theoretical speed of 1500Mbps. Therefore Eminent suggest to use the eSATA port to copy files and data.
In the manual this is stated to follow the correct installation-procedure. When connecting the eSATA cable, then the computer must be rebooted. Are you using USB, then it is not necessary to reboot the computer.
Possibly you have chosen NTFS when initializing the disk. NTFS is not recognized in older systems like Win98 and Win ME. In that case you must choose FAT32.
Eminent does not give support on Macintosh. However, it is possible to use a Macintosh. Only Mac OS X can work with the EM7010, and through the USB 2.0 connection. The eSATA-connection will not work.
