Not all printers are compatible with a print server. There are several printers that can only work when directly controlled by your computer, or work with an uncommon protocol. All-in-one printers are usually not compatible with a printer server. Consult the manufacturer of your printer for more information.
Not all printers are compatible with this print servers. Several kinds of printers will only function when directly managed by a computer or use a protocol that is not supported by the print server. Some HP printers are Host-based or GDI-based, making them incompatible with this print server. Other incompatible printers are some Canaon printers that use CAPT software.
Consult the specifications of your printer to see if the device is Host-based or if it uses GDI or CAPT. If you are not sure you can look for this information in the Internet or you can ask the manufacturer for this information.
Yes you can. The printer will not be shown on the web page of the print server, only the message 'Waiting for job' will be visible. Printing will be possible however. You may have to reconnect the printer of print server once in order for the devices to recognize each other.
The queue name of the parallel port is 'lp1' or, when using PSAdmin, 'PID:1'. The queue name of USB port 1 is 'lp2' or, when using PSAdmin, 'PID:2'. The queue name of USB port 2 is 'lp3' or when using PSAdmin, 'PID:3'
Yes, you can install PSAdmin under Windows Vista. However, you can not use the installation Wizard from the supplied CD-ROM. Instead a new version of PSAdmin is available for Vista. You can download this version here: PSAdmin You do not need to install PSAdmin to use the print server. PSAdmin is just a tool to detect the printer server and change the settings. You will only need to add a port to the Properties of the printer to be able add the printer to network. Follow the instructions below:
Click the Start button
Click 'Control Panel'
Click 'Printers'
Right click the printer and choose 'Properties'
Click the 'Ports' tab
Click 'Add Port'
Choose the 'Standard TCP/IP Port'
Click 'Next'
Enter the IP address of your print server in the 'Printer name or IP Address', for instance 192.168.1.6. The 'Port Name' will automatically appear
Click 'Next'
Select 'Custom' and choose 'Settings'
Select the correct protocol (usually LPR) and enter 'lp1' in the 'Queue' field
Click 'Ok' to save the settings and close all windows
Now try to print a file.
You can also reach the print server using an Internet browser. Use the IP address you entered yourself or the IP address that the print server received from your router. Consult the manual of the print server for more information.
